The Full Story

History

Founded in May of 1935 we were one of the first fire companies in our area. In those early years we covered all the way to the Dingmans line in the north, east to the Delaware River, west to Porters Lake and south to the East Stroudsburg line.

Our industrious founders used their own transportation with bucket brigades and hand-built pumps until finally being able to obtain their first fire truck, a 1936 Dodge Pumper which was housed at founder Russell Shellers house until the company moved into it’s very own station in 1941.

Later, with the advent of World War II and man power shifting to the war effort, the area simultaneously experienced a boom in development straining both personnel and resources. The area was split into three with the formation of the Shawnee Fire Company and Marshall's Creek Fire Company in 1945. Luckily we continued to grow adding a 1957

Ford Pumper, a 1961 Tanker, a 1963 Ford Pumper and a 1967 Dodge Brush Truck.

Following the dissolution of the Tocks Island Dam project, part of the coverage area was absorbed by the National Park Service. This then saw the development of residential housing in the remainder of the coverage area, further cementing the department’s importance in the area. As growth continued, so did the fire company. Technology became more advanced and so did the techniques required to operate in the more complex and demanding field. Our stedfast community, as always, rose to the occasion. Till this day our membership continues to train in the latest, most demanding areas of fire and rescue. Luckily, the same community that has provided us with the amazing talent we need to succeed, has also given us the support via funding to stay current with the latest equipment.

Today, we run out of three stations, in two counties across two townships. We maintain a healthy roster of proud volunteers, and continue to strive not just for competence, but for perfection. We run a fleet of advanced apparatus with the latest equipment. You can see the pride and readiness in the face of every single member who puts on the uniform, who wears the patch and who answers the call.

Day or night, rain or shine we always answer the call.

We hope our story inspires you to be proud of where you live, and of its history.  Proud of your neighbors who have given so much of themselves to keep us safe. We hope our story will inspire you to continue the legacy.
